Livewire is a secure online community developed and managed by Starlight Children’s Foundation (Starlight) for 10 – 18 year olds living with chronic or serious illness.
Starlight is committed to protecting the privacy of Livewire users. Starlight respects and upholds a Person’s rights to privacy protection under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act), the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) and other applicable State and Territory privacy legislation, in regulating how it collects, uses, holds and discloses a User’s Personal Information.
Collection of Personal Information and Imagery
All users must satisfy Livewire member criteria and the parental/guardian consent procedures in order to register to access the site.
Personal details provided for registration and collected by Starlight for identity authentication and website access level allocation include full name, date of birth, address, e-mail, telephone number, gender, hospital, interests, parental name and email address. Once registered, users are able to create a profile and include personal information such as health conditions and pictures which they may elect to make public to other users. The information in the user’s personal profile may be edited/updated by the user through their personal ‘My Stuff’ page.
Disclosure of Personal Information
Starlight will not disclose a Person’s Personal Information to a third party unless consent has been received. Tracking information will be collected as young people use the Livewire site. This information will be used to improve the site for market research purposes but not used to identify individual persons.
Children (minors)
Livewire programs and activities are directed at children and young people, under the age of 19. In the Livewire registration process Starlight collects Personal Information about a minor/minors, parents or guardians. Starlight will obtain consent from membership applicant’s parents or guardians before the commencement of membership application processing. Such personal information is collected to provide Livewire services and unless Starlight has prior parental or guardian consent it will not be used or disclosed to third parties that do not work with or for Starlight. Livewire members can update their personal information online anytime.
If at any time a parent or guardian withdraws the consent for Starlight to use or disclose Personal Information collected about his or her child, Starlight will take all reasonable steps to cancel the Livewire membership and delete such Personal Information from its systems and records.
Starlight will not disclose personal information provided via the Livewire online community to any external parties except the suppliers of outsourced services provided to Starlight under current commercial contracts. If for some reason other exception needs to be made, Starlight will always seek written permission from the minor and/or parents before disclosing the information.
Security of Personal Information
Starlight will take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the Personal Information it collects, or uses is protected from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Starlight will make all reasonable efforts to ensure that Personal Information is stored securely, and that only authorised persons have access to the information.
Access to Livewire
Parents will be asked for permission before young people, aged 10-17, can join Livewire and share personal information on the site. Young people aged under 13 will be unable to access the Starbright World US based website due to privacy legislation restrictions in the US.
Member user name and password are used on Livewire to protect privacy and security. It is the Livewire member’s responsibility to make sure that the user name and password are not disclosed to another person.
External Website Links
If any links are used that are offered through the Starlight website then the policies of the organisation operating that linked site will apply to any information the member provides once they have entered that link. Starlight is not responsible for the privacy or security of any such information.
Cookies
Any personal information and any information generated through use of Cookies will be used in accordance with this Privacy Statement for the purpose for which it was collected as well as any other purpose related to Livewire normal business operations, and also:
Other purposes connected with the operation, administration, improvement and development of Livewire;
Where Starlight suspects that fraudulent or other unlawful activity has been engaged in;
Where use is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious or imminent threat to life, health or safety or such a threat to public health or safety;
Where such use is otherwise authorised by or under any law;
Use of a user’s email address in order to alert a user to a change of status in their Livewire membership and any changes or alterations in Livewire service that affect the user.
Starlight shares the information it gathers, in de-personalised aggregate form, with sponsors and other partners.
Policy Changes
Any changes made to the Livewire Privacy Policy will be updated and available on this site. Starlight endeavours to keep users informed of the information it collects through Livewire and how that information is used via the details on this privacy policy page.
